Male Hair Loss Treatment

Male Hair Loss Treatment LondonIf you are experiencing male hair loss or baldness, you are not alone. More than 60 per cent of men will have some form of hair loss in their lifetime… and this amounts to more than seven million men in the UK who are balding at any one time.

Most men are at least part bald by the time they reach retirement age. Although it is possible to shed hair as early as your teens and to be completely bald in your 20s, in most cases hair thins gradually over two to three decades. If you are feeling self-conscious about male hair loss, treatment is available from our experienced team at the London Centre of Trichology.

Why Does Hair Loss Occur?

Male pattern baldness, also known as androgenetic alopecia and male pattern alopecia, is caused by an enhanced sensitivity to the male hormones, androgens, in various parts of the scalp. It is a natural part of the aging process and whether or not you experience it in your lifetime is simply down to genetics.

Unfortunately, the hair loss gene is a dominant one so if it is present in either parent, it will most likely be passed down to you, whether it is from your mother’s or your father’s side. While hair loss can be upsetting and stressful, it may be a small comfort to know that anyone can experience it. Actors Jude Law, John Travolta, Kevin Costner andTom Hanks, as well as Prince William and football player Wayne Rooney are among the many high profile figures who have thinning hair.

How Do You Treat Male Pattern Baldness?

If you have androgenetic alopecia, the earlier you seek treatment the better your chances of slowing down the process or preventing further hair loss. Fortunately, there are various male hair loss treatments available and our consultants will be able to discuss these with you during your free appraisal at the London Centre of Trichology. Briefly, your treatment may consist of any one of the following:

Non Surgical – If herbal based non-surgical treatments are the best option for you, this will consist of a three to six-month course, which can be carried out in the comfort of your own home. You will be monitored with a monthly check-up where you can view images of the treated areas to track your progress.

Replacement Systems Also known as a weave, this is another non-surgical procedure and the result is a natural looking, full head of hair. The main benefit is that you can change the style, colour or length as often as you want, and it is the quickest way to restore your confidence. Each system is bespoke and we use the most up-to-date American systems for the best possible results.

Surgical – While surgery may seem like a bold move, it is another solution for replacing lost hair which is the preferred option for some men. Our trichologists will talk you through the procedure, so you can make an informed decision on whether it is right for you. If you would prefer not to have surgery, non-surgical options are available.
